Description
A laboratory-grade aqueous excipient consisting of purified water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative, used as a diluent for lyophilized research materials.
This diluent is a well-characterized laboratory formulation: purified water containing 0.9% (w/v) benzyl alcohol, an aromatic alcohol that inhibits microbial growth in sealed multi-use research vials. The formulation has been part of pharmaceutical excipient science for decades and is described extensively in the formulation-chemistry literature. The preservative's role is to allow a sealed vial of a lyophilized research material to be sampled repeatedly across a research workflow without microbial contamination. Sold as a research-grade excipient.
Roy et al. (2005) examined how 0.9% benzyl alcohol in aqueous formulation affects the physical stability of a lyophilized recombinant protein, characterizing aggregation behavior across combinations of stabilizers and structural retention parameters. Korodi et al. (2010) evaluated benzyl alcohol content in a pharmaceutical formulation study and developed a validated HPLC method for quantifying both the preservative and the active compound. Earlier excipient chemistry work (Grissom et al., 1988) characterized benzyl alcohol as a preservative in aqueous formulations.

Returns
Because these are research-grade biologics, we cannot accept returns on opened vials. Damaged-in-transit shipments are replaced at no cost within 7 days of delivery.
