Description
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide analog of an N-terminal fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH 4-10), lacking the hormonal activity of the parent molecule. Selank is a synthetic analog of tuftsin, an endogenous tetrapeptide, extended to a heptapeptide sequence. The way two instruments in the same section of an orchestra can be tuned to complementary registers, Semax and Selank are studied together in the literature for their overlapping activity on neurotrophin signaling and gene expression in the central nervous system, while each carries a distinct pharmacological research profile.
Sudarkina et al., 2021 (Int J Mol Sci, PMID 34201112) investigated Semax in a rat model of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion, documenting changes in brain protein expression profiles linked to inflammation and cell-death pathways.
