Casarini et al. (2018) reviewed the distinct signaling cascades activated by hCG versus LH at this shared receptor, noting hCG's pronounced cAMP/protein kinase A-mediated steroidogenic signaling in ovarian cell research models. Matzkin et al. (2013) documented that hCG stimulation of Leydig cells activated a calcium-dependent potassium channel alongside increased testosterone production in an experimental model.
